The Management Development Centre (then Management Centre), which is situated at The Malawi Polytechnic, is a semi-autonomous arm of the University of Malawi. The Management Development Centre (MDC-UNIMA) was founded on the premise that it sustains its operations like the payment of staff salaries, procurement and maintenance of assets, payment of utilities and many other more. The Centre has been active by engaging itself in several management training activities. Established in 1978, the Centre has managed to extensively train managers and officers working in both the public and private sectors of our economy.
Over the years, the Centre has geared itself towards running different programmes that contemporary managers desperately need for the better running of their various organisations. The generic programmes that have been offered by the Centre include: The Institute of Bankers in Malawi (IOB), The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), The Association of Business Executives (ABE) and The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). In addition to running these generic management development programmes, the Centre also runs different short courses in the form of seminars, conferences and workshops for the same purpose of training managers and officers from various institutions. In-house courses have also been organised for many organisations in Malawi.
The Management Development Centre is also mandated to carry out research and consultancies
