The Department offers an undergraduate programme
in Environmental Science and Technology (EST), a Diploma programme
in Industrial Laboratory Technology (offered in conjunction with
Association of Professional Chemists and Chemical Engineers in
Malawi), as well as several weekly seminars and short courses
featuring invited speakers from the industry.
BSc. Environmental
Science & Technology
The EST program was established in 1997 with
the aim of producing high caliber human resource and expertise
in environmental science and food science/technology. The programme
takes four years to complete. The first two years are common and
students are taught courses such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology,
Laboratory Management, Mathematics, Communication Studies and
Construction Drawing. Specialisation begins in the third year
with three options: Environmental Management, Environmental Physics
and Food Technology.
Diploma in Industrial
Laboratory Technology
This diploma runs for three years. This programme
is run in conjunction with the Association of Professional Chemists
and Chemicals Engineers in Malawi (APCCEM). The Diploma certificate
is issued by APCCEM. Classes are conducted during weekends only
(Saturdays and Sundays).
