FACULTY OF EDUCATION AND MEDIA STUDIES

The faculty of Education and Media studies was established in 2001.

Since then it has introduced various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes which address varying needs of country and the region. These include Bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Media Studies, Business Communication, Technical Education, Business Studies Education.

The masters degrees include an MA in Health and Behaviour Change Communication and a Master of Technical and Vocational Education. An MA in Journalism is under development and we should launch it before the end of the 2015/2016 academic year.

The Faculty is also home to the continuing education Centre and the Printing Unit.

 

JOURNALISM AND MEDIA STUDIES DEPARTMENT

 

The Department of Journalism and Media Studies is offering a four year Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a two year Diploma in Journalism and Diploma in Printing and Graphic Media Studies through the Continuing Education Centre. The programmes are aimed at providing students with  skills in newspaper, radio, television, printing and graphic media production.   The department is in the process of developing a MA in Journalism program schedule to be launched by September 2016.

 




 TECHNICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT


  The Technical Education Department offers a University Certificate in Technical Education, a Bachelor of Technical Education (Science), Bachelor of Technical Education (technology) and a Bachelors of education (Business Studies). It also offers a Masters in Technical and Vocational Education.
The Undergraduate programmes equip graduates with both theoretical and practical skills and knowledge in pedagogy needed in teaching and learning in science and technology.The postgraduate programme will provide advanced skills and knowledge including  generation of information and research. Graduates from programmes offered are employed in training, manufacturing, research and commercial sectors.

LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT

The department offers language and business communication instruction to all programmes at the Malawi Polytechnic. The instruction is tailored to suit the nature of programmes offered in each of the Faculties. Besides servicing other programme requirements from across Faculties, the department offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Communication and also a Master of Arts in Health and Behaviour Change Communication.
