1. What is the fee structure for both undergraduate and postgraduate students?

The fee structure at MUBAS per academic year is as follows:

Undergraduate programmes: 

  • K650, 000 per year for Generic Students Programmes
  • K400, 000 per year for ODeL Students Programmes
  • K1,400,000 per year for Extended Degree Programmes
  • K3,789,451 per year for Economic Fee-Paying Degree programmes (Non-Malawians from SADC countries is $5,200; Non-SADC countries: $8,700)
  • K1,000,000 per year for Mature Degree Students Programmes.

These fees are indicated on all the offer letters released for all students admitted into the various degree programmes for the University.

Postgraduate students:

  • PhD programmes fees range from $14,500 to US$23,500 for the duration of the programme.
  • Master’s degree programmes fees range from US$4,500 to US$9,000 depending on the program pursued.

The University allows fees to be paid in two equal instalments. Students can pay half of their applicable fees at the start of each semester.

 

2. What are the entry requirements?

What has been provided below are the general requirements but the specific requirements for the programmes havs been provided under each school and department.

  • Certificate programmes: Students must have a pass at MSCE.
  • Mature entry and Diploma programmes: Students must have a Certificate in a relevant field and an MSCE certificate with at least 4 credits. Some programmes may require 2 years’ work experience. 
  • Degree programmes: Students must have an MSCE certificate or its equivalent with 6 credits, including English.

 

3. What programmes are on offer?

4. What is the mode of assessment?

The University has a GPA system for all academic assessment for all its programmes.

 

5. What are the career prospects?

6. Can a student reserve a place after admission?

Yes, the University allows students to reserve a place for a minimum of one year, provided they have valid reasons.

 

7. Does the University offer any funding/scholarship opportunities?

The University provides funding and scholarship opportunities to both undergraduate and postgraduate students through partnerships with International Universities, Private institutions as well as through Malawi government.

 

8. Students Life

What type of student accommodation is available?

  • The University provides accommodation to its students on and off campus. There are also other private accommodation service providers. The office of Director of Student Affairs can provide the details of such private hostels around MUBAS.
  • Students accommodated on and off campus pay a subsidized accommodation fees per month.

What are the transport arrangements for the university?

The University provides transport for all academic related activities of the university. For non-academic activities students may use the commuters or may hire from private firms or from the University if transport is available.

Does the university provide food for its students?

  • The University does not directly offer food services. However, there are several external food providers offering affordable and reasonably priced meals to students, both on and off campus.

 

9. What is the University Academic Calendar, especially regarding the study duration for each program?

The University calendar starts in January and ends in August each year. This translates into 4 months for each semester. All the undergraduate programmes are a 4-year programmes and the postgraduate programmes are for 2-years for master’s degree programmes and 5 years for PhD programmes. 

 

10.What are the criteria for the admission of international students?

The University may admit international students with the following qualification:

  • O-Level certificates with 6 credits
  • A-Level Certificate with a minimum grade of C 
  • GCE with 6 credits
  • IGSCE certificate with a maximum grade of C
